waterfront
One of the world's most cinematic natural harbours. Backed by Three Cities, Saluting Battery views, and centuries of fortified stone. Ideal for period maritime, naval, and contemporary harbour scenes.
Baroque masterpiece with carved limestone interiors, marble inlay floors, and two Caravaggio paintings. Rarely open to filming inside but exteriors and surrounding streets are highly accessible.
Elevated terrace garden with arched colonnade and the most photographed view in Malta — across the Grand Harbour to the Three Cities. Saluting Battery directly below.
Pedestrianised main artery from City Gate to Fort St Elmo. Limestone facades, traditional shopfronts, and Maltese balconies. Closed to traffic, ideal for clean street work.
Star-shaped 16th-century fortress at the harbour mouth — battlements, parade grounds, and the National War Museum. Featured in productions doubling for Mediterranean and North African settings.
Restored 18th-century Pinto stores painted in pastel colours along the harbour edge. Modern restaurant frontage with historic bones — works for both period and contemporary.
Baroque masterpiece interiors with Caravaggio paintings, marble inlay floors, and surrounding tight Knights-era streets.
Elevated terraces overlooking the harbour with arched colonnades, panoramic vistas, and cinematic golden-hour light.
Scene 03 — The Case for Valletta

Scene 04 — Logistics
Malta International Airport (MLA) — 8km / 20-30 min
bus
Malta Public Transport runs from Valletta terminus (just outside City Gate) to every town on the island. Affordable, frequent, and tourist-friendly.
Crew tip: Buses cannot enter the walled city — crew and equipment use the central terminus and walk in.
taxi
White official taxis at City Gate rank. Apps Bolt and eCabs offer reliable transport island-wide.
Crew tip: Pre-book larger vehicles for equipment — narrow streets limit van access inside the walls.
ferry
Valletta-Sliema and Valletta-Three Cities ferries cross the harbour in 5-10 minutes. Foot passengers only.
Crew tip: Excellent for crew transfer between harbour-side locations without traffic.
Valletta is largely pedestrianised inside the walls. Street parking is permit-only for residents during the day.
Production vehicles park at MCP (Malta Car Park) underground at Floriana, then ferry equipment in via dolly or cleared service vehicle. Coordinate with Malta Film Commission for in-walls access permits.
Inside Valletta everything is within a 15-minute walk. Across the harbour to Three Cities is a 5-minute ferry. Mdina is 25 minutes by road, Marsaxlokk 30 minutes, Gozo 1.5 hours including ferry crossing.
