natural
Geological wonderland — collapsed Azure Window stack, Fungus Rock, and the Inland Sea linked to open water by a natural rock tunnel. Used in World War Z and many international features.
Fortified hilltop city in the centre of Gozo. Recently restored bastions, baroque Cathedral of the Assumption, and panoramic walks around the walls with views across the entire island.
Gozo's largest beach with distinctive red-orange sand. Backed by green hillside with Calypso's Cave above. Almost entirely undeveloped — no buildings in frame.
Deep narrow inlet with cliff walls and traditional fishing village frontage. Clear turquoise water and a cliff-top tower. Sheltered conditions for water and underwater work.
UNESCO World Heritage megalithic temple complex from 3600 BC — older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids. Massive limestone slabs in their original arrangement.
Isolated neo-Romanesque pilgrimage basilica standing alone in open countryside near Għarb. Striking symmetrical composition with no surrounding buildings.
Centuries-old chequerboard salt evaporation pans cut into the limestone shore near Marsalforn. Geometric, otherworldly textures with the sea immediately behind.
Hilltop capital with a fortified Citadel rising above the centre — 360° views of the entire island, baroque cathedral, and medieval lanes.
Site of the 3600 BC megalithic temples (UNESCO World Heritage) and surrounding traditional village.
Scene 03 — The Case for Gozo

Scene 04 — Logistics
Malta International Airport (MLA) — 40km + 25min ferry / 90 min total
ferry
Gozo Channel ferry runs Ċirkewwa (Malta) ↔ Mġarr (Gozo) every 30-45 min. Crossing 25 minutes. Vehicle deck for trucks and grip.
Crew tip: Production vehicles can roll on/off — book ahead for large trucks. First ferry ~6am, last ~11pm with limited night service.
bus
Malta Public Transport routes serve all main villages from Victoria's central terminus. Limited frequency outside peak season.
Crew tip: Smaller crews fine; equipment movement faster by van or production vehicle.
taxi
Local Gozo taxis and apps (eCabs, Bolt) operate. Smaller fleet than Malta — pre-book larger vehicles.
Crew tip: Pre-book early-morning transport for sunrise calls.
Generally easier than Malta. Most villages and beaches have free public parking nearby.
Coordinate base camp via Malta Film Commission. Heritage sites (Citadel, Ġgantija, Dwejra) have designated lots for production vehicles with permit.
Gozo is 14km long — every location within a 30-minute drive. Ferry to mainland Malta is 25 minutes; total Mġarr → Valletta journey ~90 minutes including crossing.
